Shanghai railway station is a place like no other. The whole of the population of this vast city seems to want to travel at the same time. And not just people, but people with bundles and packages the size of people, queuing up at ticket counters, squeezing through turnstiles, with grandma and grandchild in tow. Just where is the platform I am looking for, and where is the train that will take me to Xi’an?
