Jeremy Leggett, founder of Solar Century, stated recently that he had worked on some research looking into how long it would take the world to be powered completely by renewable energy – including the entire transport sector – if only we were not held back by vested interests and governments in thrall to the fossil-fuel lobby. The answer is, twenty years. Twenty years! And the transition – as President Obama has realised – is one that will create a new ‘green-collar’ sector that will boost global economies in a clean and sustainable way.
