MARY THOMAS WAS a knowledgeable and wise elder of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation of Canada who was taught by her elders about the importance of caring for the land, the water, the trees and berry bushes, the fish, birds and animals of their home territory. Mary passed away in the summer of 2007, but in her nearly ninety years of living she gained some of the most important lessons that any human being can learn, and she generously shared them with any who sought her wisdom.
